U.S. Congress allocates $25 million for USAID's NTD control efforts in fiscal year 2009

On Febuary 4, 2009, former President Bush submitted a $3.1 trillion budget request to Congress for fiscal year 2009 (FY09). Approximately $6.5 billion was designated for core global health programs including maternal and child health, family planning, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. U.S. Congress allocated $25 million for USAID's NTD control efforts in FY09, a $10 million increase over the FY08 budget for NTDs.

The President’s budget request now sits with Congress and budget committees hearings are taking place to establish top-line budget allocations, including funding allocations for the International Affairs and Health and Human Services budgets.
