The Global NGO Deworming Inventory is a global database that collates data on deworming activities implemented by nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to treat soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH), schistosomiasis, and/or lymphatic filariasis (LF).
This year, 2010, is marked by World Health Assembly Resolution 54.19 as the target year to achieve treatment of 75 to 100 school-age children at risk of STH and schistosomiasis morbidity. The WHO estimates that only 99 million of the 884.5 million (11) target population were treated with an antihelminthic drug in 2008. It is expected that this number may be an underestimate as it does not reflect the deworming activities of a large number of NGOs that provide deworming treatment to at-risk populations.
The Inventory will ensure that all significant deworming activities are reflected in measurements of global progress toward the WHO target. In addition, complete information on who is deworming where, and how many children are being dewormed can facilitate sharing of best practices, collaborative and strategic partnerships, and coordinated advocacy. The Inventory will serve as a repository of deworming information accessible by all participating NGOs. Use of data from the Inventory will be governed by the Data Use and Sharing Policy [PDF, 109KB].
If you provide antihelminthic drugs to treat or prevent STH, schistosomiasis, and/or LF, please take part in the Inventory by completing this survey. Visit the Global NGO Deworming Inventory site to learn more and review information collected to date.
