In Memoriam: Dr. Likezo Mubila

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear colleague Dr. Likezo Mubila passed away suddenly on August 4, 2011.

Likezo was a tireless advocate for the people affected by neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the African region. As the focal point for NTDs at the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), Likezo was dedicated to supporting countries in Africa to control and eliminate lymphatic filariasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, and schistosomiasis.

We admired and appreciated her engagement with endemic countries and international partners. We will greatly miss her enthusiasm, partnership, dedication, and most of all, her uplifting laughter.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues in this time of great loss.
